Abstract
The article explores the importance of avoiding artificial intelligence (AI) misuse in university assignments, highlights the key considerations and strategies for devising effective assessment tasks in online education in order to create effective and authentic assessment tasks that circumvent the use of AI, and offers strategies to mitigate this problem. AI technologies, such as text generators, language models, and automated problem solvers, can assist students in completing assignments, sometimes to the point of undermining the purpose of assessment. The challenge lies in designing tasks that require genuine engagement and critical thinking from students, making it difficult for AI to replicate their efforts. This requires a shift towards assessments that emphasize originality, creativity, and the application of knowledge in unique contexts.
